How our evidence works
Where each record comes from, how we label it, how AI is used, and what happens when something is unknown.
Where the information comes from
We keep these five classes separate everywhere in a report, so you always know whether you are reading an official record, a provider record, your own photograph, AI output or a presentation aid.
Official source records
Registration and MOT data published by UK government sources (DVLA and DVSA). We show what the source returned at the moment of the check and the time we took it.
Contracted provider records
Provenance areas such as outstanding finance, insurance write-off entries, stolen-vehicle markers and mileage records are supplied by our contracted UK data provider. Coverage varies by record type and by tier.
Images you supply
Photographs you capture in the scanner are your own evidence. Each finding links back to the exact image and angle it came from.
AI assistance
AI is used for visual screening of your photographs and for the Sam assistant. It is generated output, not a record and not an inspection.
Generated presentation geometry
Any 3D view is a generic generated shape used to show where photographs belong. It is not a measurement, a reconstruction or evidence of anything.
The five evidence states
Unknown does not mean clear. Only a checked section can ever be shown as a pass, and even a checked section can return an adverse result.

How we use AI
Photographic screening
The scanner runs AI-assisted visual screening over the photographs you capture. It is not an inspection certificate, it cannot see through panels, and it never replaces a physical inspection. Where views are missing or unusable, the affected areas are reported as not assessed rather than passed.
Sam · AI assistant
Sam is an AI assistant, not a person and not a qualified technician. Responses are generated and can be wrong.
- No diagnosis, roadworthiness decision, guaranteed repair price or valuation.
- Sam cannot inspect, drive or photograph the car.
- Sam does not write to your report, your scan or your account.
- Conversations here are not saved to your account and cannot be retrieved later.
If an answer touches brakes, steering, suspension, tyres, airbags, fuel or structural corrosion, stop using the vehicle and have it checked by a qualified technician. Sam cannot see, drive or inspect the car and must not be used to decide whether a vehicle is roadworthy.
