Electric Car Checkevcarcheck.co.uk

evcarcheck.co.uk is a UK vehicle-data tool that takes a single registration and returns what the official records actually say about the car behind it. No upsold marketing copy in front of the data, no fabricated "risk indicators" pulled from nothing — the report shows what is on file and where it came from. Buying an electric car? Check its history, battery health data, finance status and write-off records first. Below: how the underlying records work, and the points where a buyer most often gets caught out.
01 · TRUST

Data sourced from DVLA, MIAFTR, contracted stolen-vehicle data and the UK lender register at lookup time.

02 · TRUST

Typical lookup completes in under one second from the UK.

03 · TRUST

Built and supported in the UK as part of the consumer side of the network.

01

Reading the report in the order that matters

Work top-down: outstanding finance first, because it is the only finding that can cost you the car and the money. Then theft and write-off markers, which decide whether the vehicle is legally and commercially what the advert claims. Mileage, plate history and MOT advisories come next — they rarely end a purchase on their own, but together they tell you how honestly the car has been described.

02

VED, benefit-in-kind and running costs

Electric vehicles are no longer exempt from vehicle excise duty, and the expensive-car supplement now applies to many of them. Company-car benefit-in-kind rates remain low by comparison but are on a published upward path. Check the current-year figures rather than advice written a few years ago.

03

Battery leases and separately-owned packs

A small number of older UK EVs were sold with the battery on a separate monthly lease. The vehicle can be bought outright while the pack remains the finance company's property, and the lease has to be transferred formally. Establish which arrangement applies before agreeing a price, as it changes both the value and the monthly cost.

/ Brand consolidation

evcarcheck.co.uk is now Expert Car Check

evcarcheck.co.uk is now part of Expert Car Check — the consolidated UK vehicle-data platform that several of these older brands have joined. The data sources are unchanged: DVLA's vehicle record, DVSA's MOT history, MIAFTR for write-offs, contracted UK data providers for stolen-vehicle markers and the UK lender register for outstanding finance. The team and the support contact are the same. What's changed is that the work that was previously spread across several smaller brands now sits in one place, which keeps response times tight and the underlying registers maintained against current DVLA schemas. Bookmarks and historic links to evcarcheck.co.uk continue to resolve here. If you were referred to evcarcheck.co.uk by a previous report, broker or print listing, this is the right page — there is no further redirect to chase.

/ Common questions

Questions buyers ask about evcarcheck.co.uk

Will I get the advertised range?+

Rarely in full. WLTP is a laboratory standard, and a shortfall of a fifth or more is common in winter, at motorway speeds and with climate control running. Judge a used EV on the roads you actually drive.

Can I fit a home charger anywhere?+

Not always. Shared driveways, flats and older consumer units can complicate or prevent installation. Get an assessment of your own property before committing, because relying on public rapid charging changes the running costs substantially.

Why do EV tyres wear faster?+

Weight and instant torque. Fitments are often load-rated specifically for the model and cost more than the combustion equivalent. Brakes go the other way and tend to corrode from underuse rather than wear out.

Are electric cars still tax-free?+

No. Electric vehicles now pay vehicle excise duty and many attract the expensive-car supplement. Company-car benefit-in-kind rates remain comparatively low but are rising on a published schedule, so check current-year figures.
