Car HPI Reportcarhpireport.com

carhpireport.com sits at the heavier end of UK vehicle intelligence. Beyond the standard provenance flags, the report layers in risk scoring, mileage forensics and the kind of follow-on detail that an experienced inspector would normally have to compile by hand. Download a complete HPI vehicle report PDF: finance, theft, insurance write-offs, mileage anomalies and more.

Cover for the situation you're actually in

Most people checking a vehicle on carhpireport.com need cover for it within the same day or week. Rather than send you back to a comparison site, the four panels below route directly to UK specialists for the most common short-notice insurance situations.

We earn a commission on policies bound through these partners. The commission does not affect the price you are quoted.

01

What the V5C should match

The check returns the recorded VIN, engine number and colour. Compare each against the V5C in front of you and the corresponding stamps on the vehicle itself. A V5C that lists a different engine number from the one on the block is a known ringer signature. A V5C printed in a different colour scheme to the current DVLA template should be verified directly with DVLA before purchase.

02

Finance markers explained

If a UK lender has an open agreement against the vehicle, that agreement legally follows the car rather than the seller. Buying a car under outstanding finance — even unknowingly — can leave the new owner liable for repayment or the vehicle subject to repossession. The check returns the lender's name, the agreement type (HP, PCP or lease) and the start date, with the recommended next step being a settlement letter from the lender before any money changes hands.

03

What a clean report does and does not mean

A clean check confirms that, at the moment of lookup, no UK insurer has filed a total-loss marker, no lender has registered an open agreement and no police force has reported the vehicle stolen. It does not confirm mechanical condition, repair quality, or work carried out in cash and never declared to an insurer. Treat the report as the legal and financial backstop to an in-person inspection, not a replacement for one.

/ Brand consolidation

carhpireport.com is now Expert Car Check

carhpireport.com is now part of Expert Car Check — the consolidated UK vehicle-data platform that several of these older brands have joined. The data sources are unchanged: DVLA's vehicle record, DVSA's MOT history, MIAFTR for write-offs, the Police National Computer feed for theft markers and the UK lender register for outstanding finance. The team, the underwriting partners and the support contact are the same. What's changed is that the work that was previously spread across several smaller brands now sits in one place, which keeps response times tight and the underlying registers maintained against current DVLA schemas. Bookmarks and historic links to carhpireport.com continue to resolve here. If you were referred to carhpireport.com by a previous report, broker or print listing, this is the right page — there is no further redirect to chase.

/ Common questions

Questions buyers ask about carhpireport.com

Can I check a vehicle by VIN instead of registration?+

Yes, for vehicles where the VIN is on record. UK registration plate is the primary lookup; VIN is a fallback for newly-imported or de-registered vehicles.

How recent is the data?+

DVLA records are refreshed every 6 hours. MIAFTR and PNC are live at lookup. Finance registers are updated by participating lenders as agreements are opened, settled or transferred.

Does an HPI check work for vans, motorbikes and HGVs?+

Yes. The same lookup engine covers cars, vans, motorbikes and HGVs, and the report adapts to the vehicle class — van checks include plated weights, motorcycle checks include frame and engine number verification, HGV checks include operator licence notes.

What if the seller refuses to let me run a check?+

Walk away. Any legitimate UK seller has no reason to object to a vehicle check — they should be running one themselves before listing.
