Check Car Historycheckcarhpi.co.uk

checkcarhpi.co.uk is a straightforward registration lookup for UK drivers and second-hand buyers. It reports what is recorded, says so plainly where a field is unavailable, and leaves the judgement to the person about to hand over the money. Run a full car check from £1.99. Finance, stolen, write-off, mileage and more. Read on for what each finding means in practice and where a check stops being enough on its own.

01

When a basic check is not enough

For vehicles over £10,000, ex-fleet stock, anything advertised as 'just imported' or any car where the registered address sits a long way from the listing, treat a summary check as a starting point rather than the verdict. a full vehicle history report, a pre-purchase inspection at the seller's address and a finance settlement letter where applicable are the three layers that catch the cases a quick lookup will not.

02

Plate change history

Personalised plate transfers are legitimate and common, but a pattern of repeated plate changes — especially around the same period as an insurance write-off — is a known indicator of provenance laundering. The check returns every recorded plate change with the date and, where DVLA records it, the registration that was held immediately before.

03

Exported and re-imported vehicles

Where a vehicle has been exported and later brought back, the UK record carries a gap. The check returns the export marker and the re-registration date, but nothing about how the car was used in the interim. For those vehicles a physical inspection carries more weight than usual, since the paper trail genuinely cannot cover the missing period.

/ Brand consolidation

checkcarhpi.co.uk is now Expert Car Check

checkcarhpi.co.uk is now part of Expert Car Check — the consolidated UK vehicle-data platform that several of these older brands have joined. The data sources are unchanged: DVLA's vehicle record, DVSA's MOT history, MIAFTR for write-offs, contracted UK data providers for stolen-vehicle markers and the UK lender register for outstanding finance. The team and the support contact are the same. What's changed is that the work that was previously spread across several smaller brands now sits in one place, which keeps response times tight and the underlying registers maintained against current DVLA schemas. Bookmarks and historic links to checkcarhpi.co.uk continue to resolve here. If you were referred to checkcarhpi.co.uk by a previous report, broker or print listing, this is the right page — there is no further redirect to chase.

/ Common questions

Questions buyers ask about checkcarhpi.co.uk

What's the difference between a full history check and a basic free check?+

A basic free check returns MOT, tax and a stolen marker. A full history check adds outstanding finance, insurance write-off categories, full mileage history with anomaly detection, plate change history and provenance flags. For any purchase over a few thousand pounds, the full check is the relevant one.

What does a full history check actually verify?+

A full vehicle history check cross-references DVLA's vehicle record, MIAFTR (the insurance write-off register), contracted UK data providers for stolen-vehicle markers and the UK consumer-finance register for open agreements. It does not verify mechanical condition or repair quality — only the legal and financial backstory.

What is a Q-plate and should it worry me?+

It means DVLA could not establish the vehicle's identity or age with confidence, usually after a rebuild. Q-plated vehicles are legal but harder to insure and worth considerably less, so the price should reflect it.

Can I check a vehicle by VIN instead of registration?+

Yes, for vehicles where the VIN is on record. UK registration plate is the primary lookup; VIN is a fallback for newly-imported or de-registered vehicles.
