Track rod end play
Inspection for free play in the outer steering joint, checked with the wheels jacked and a colleague rocking the road wheel.
Excessive play causes vague steering and uneven front tyre wear. A loose track rod end is a Major MOT defect; a track rod end about to separate is Dangerous.
