OBD-II port

Also known as: OBD2, diagnostic port

Standardised 16-pin diagnostic socket, mandatory on petrol cars sold in the EU/UK since 2001 and diesel since 2004.

The MOT uses the OBD-II port to read certain emissions readiness flags. A vehicle with the engine management light illuminated, or with cleared readiness monitors that suggest the light was reset just before the test, can fail on emissions grounds.
