Inspection Check
Corrosion in a prescribed area
Also known as: structural corrosion
Corrosion that weakens the vehicle within 30cm of a structural component — seat belt mountings, suspension mountings, steering box.
The MOT defines specific areas of the body where corrosion is assessed under the 30cm rule. Excessive corrosion in these areas is a Major defect; structural failure or perforation is Dangerous.
Underseal applied recently and thickly enough to obscure the metal is itself a reason for the tester to refuse the inspection of that area.
